African Climate Adaptation Innovation Challenge 2022. Win up to GHS 40,000


Applications are open for The ACAIC “African Climate Adaptation Innovation Challenge” 2022.

The challenge which is coordinated by 3 E’s 4 Africa in close cooperation with the local partners GAYO and StartUp Lounge is a project which intends to focus on the innovative minds and projects of young Africans and encourage and empower them to create a local impact in their communities. It is an idea contest which challenges young Ghanaians to come up with innovative, green ideas and helps them to develop them into real solutions. The first edition of the ACAIC will be held in Ghana in the year 2022.

Importance and Objectives of the ACAIC  (Benefits)

● Empowering youth and local communities in Africa by providing them not only with entrepreneurship skills but also with the tools and knowledge they need to create local impact.

● Help African communities build resilience and adapt to the adverse effects of climate change locally.

● Integrational knowledge sharing: Bringing together local traditional practices with scientific or modern methodologies.

● Addressing and solving climate challenges through entrepreneurship and innovation in Africa.

● Due to the nature of the project, it is centered around tackling SDG5 (Gender Equality), SDG7 (affordable energy), SDG12 (responsible consumption and production) and SDG13 (climate


Target Group of the ACAIC  (Eligibility)

● Young Ghanians or people of African descent between 18 - 30 years old living in Ghana.

● At least 40% of the selected projects for the acceleration program should be female-led. As such,

Female applicants are strongly encouraged to apply!

● All projects should have a strong focus on the issue of sustainability and Climate Change

Adaptation in Africa”

● Applicants can apply alone or in groups of max. 6 persons


The program will take place both online and offline.  (hybrid)

Part 1 (eight weeks) will take place online.

Part 2  ( pitch event and implementation of awarded projects) will happen physically in Ghana.

ACAIC Prize money

● There are a total of 3 prizes awarded after the ACAIC pitch competition. These prizes will be awarded as follows:

○ 1st Place: 5.000 €

○ 2nd Place: 3.000 €

○ 3rd Place: 2.000 €

The ACAIC Stakeholders

The ACAIC is powered by three organizations based in and out of Ghana. They include Green African Youth Organization, StartUp Lounge Africa and 3 E’s 4 Africa e.V.

GAYO is a youth-led gender-balanced advocacy group based in Ghana with a mission to research and provide solutions to pressing environmental issues through youth empowerment, skills development and public education.

Start.Up Lounge Africa is Ghanaian company which brings expertise in the managing portfolio and business development in general. Their goal is to see young African businesses of today, working collaboratively and grow to be in the driving seat of developing the continent through their innovations.

3 E’s 4 Africa e.V. ; As the main coordinator of the project 3 E’s 4 Africa is a German-based and diaspora NGO which funds sustainable project research in Africa which are initiated by African students themselves. The organization’s approach is centered around the empowerment of the African youth to create and invent sustainable and innovative solutions to the numerous challenges which the climate change crisis brings.
