How Ghanaians Reacted to the 2022 Budget on Social Media - Digital Marshals Institute Sentiment Analysis Report


Data analytics and training centre, Digital Marshals Institute (DMI) has published its maiden report on What’s Shaping the Discourse (WSTD), a series focused on social media reactions of Ghanaians. The report on Ghana’s 2022 Budget was released on 13th January 2022 at the company's head office in Accra.

Focused on the budget reading in parliament by Hon Ken Ofori-Atta, Ghana’s Minister of Finance, the report was presented by a team of data mining experts at Digital Marshals Institute. The report features how Ghanaians discussed the 2022 budget and the analysis of the most discussed topics and concerns. The report will also help agencies to understand the concerns of various individuals, their views and the major topics of interest in the budget and their sentiments on each of the topics.

The report also shows that the following are among the top 9 things Ghanaians discussed relating to the budget; Taxes, Politics, Cost of Living, Infrastructure, Economy, Jobs, Compliment, Education, and Health respectively.

The report also reveals the huge amount of negative reactions recorded at 64.9% through social media posts and only 35.1% gave positive reviews about the 2022 budget.

Speaking about the report, the Managing Director of DMI, Omane Ossei-Poku, mentioned,

 “We are hopeful, this report will help government and state agencies track the pattern of conversations about issues on social media”

The report is the first in a series that would be dedicated to sharing insights and analysis on conversations by Ghanaians on various topics of national interest. The report will be shared with the government and related organisations to help them in making informed decisions and working with the views of the general populace.

DMI, is also expected to launch a 60-page report on Ghanaians conversation about #FixTheCountry which was one of the most discussed topics in 2021 on social media.
