5 Essential Steps To Maintain the Quality of a Carpet
Keeping your carpets fresh and clean, and close to the same quality you originally bought them at, is essential to keeping your home clean. When your carpets are clean and smell good, the entire ambiance of your home is cleaner, brighter and healthier.
There are several things you can do on your own to maintain your carpets which are very easy and do a wonderful job in keeping carpets clean and of high quality. Just follow these 5 steps and you’ll be glad you did.

1.Take off shoes

Nothing brings in more dirt and grime into our homes than walking on carpets with outdoor shoes. There’s no need to drag in the dirt and grunge from the soles of your shoes when you can just leave them at the door once you enter the house. Shoes have a hard tread and will wear down your carpets fast. Actually, removing shoes is a habit favored in many oriental countries and lessens the wear and tear on carpets. You too can pick up the same habit and ditch the shoes, especially if you live in a city like London, which experiences a lot of rain, meaning more mud and slush. But first, give your carpets a good cleaning by trained technicians who specialize in carpet cleaning in South West Londonusing either steam for wool or synthetic carpets or dry cleaning for tencel or viscose carpets, among others. A deep clean every now and then is way better than waiting till your carpet looks dirty, and will do the work that commercial products can’t.

2. Regular vacuuming

Once a week is not enough to maintain the look. A better frequency would be twice or three times a week. Regular vacuuming picks up dirt and stops it from getting trodden in. What many people don’t notice is vacuuming slowly is more effective than quick vacuuming. A quick pass over carpets might not do the trick. So a rule of thumb would be the higher the traffic area on carpets in your home or office, the slower you should vacuum.

3. Remove stains right away

The longer the stain sets in, the more difficult it is to remove. You can always purchase a good carpet cleaner to have at hand. Some people might also use everyday ingredients they have at home to remove carpet stains. Just using a mild detergent can also work. It’s important that when removing stains, you blot instead of rub in a stain remover. Rubbing could work in the stain even more.

4. Use stain resistance protection

Some carpets are manufactured to be stain resistant. Yet that protection can diminish over time, especially in high traffic areas.  There are also protectants, which can be applied to all carpets at any time which helps prevent dirt and spills from absorbing into the fibers quickly. They can also prevent fading from sunlight. This is a good option to help prevent long term damage to your carpet.

5. Use curtains or blinds

Speaking of sunlight, rays of sunlight from a window are nice, but too much sun shining down on your carpet can cause its colors to fade quickly. Curtains will block the sunlight to protect the surface from direct light. It’s common in very warm climates to even remove your carpets during the summer months. If you plan to remove them, make sure they are rolled up and not folded.

Care for your carpets

A beautiful carpet is what pulls any room together. It’s not difficult to maintain its beauty if you take conscious precautions. Contrary to the misconception that carpets are just dust traps and difficult to care for, they can last for a long time and you can get more years out of your investment if you care for them properly.
