THE YCEO: Build Your Faith Muscle

Sometimes our feelings cause us to look at tests and trials from the wrong angle. We tend to think that no one else is struggling with life to the degree that we are. At least that’s what our feelings are telling us. The truth of the matter is that everyone on the face of this earth has their share of problems, tests, and trials they too must overcome. You are not alone.

But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. Isaiah 40:31

In my opinion, this is one of the most encouraging scriptures in the Bible. It infers that we learn the importance of waiting on the Lord. In this text, the term waiting means more than just letting the time pass. It has more to do with the description of our attitude while the time passes. We must have an attitude of hope and expectancy. To have hope is to have an expectancy that everything is going to work out.

Every test and trial presents an opportunity for us to get stronger in our faith. They are new opportunities to trust God on a deeper level. These storms are building our faith muscles. We get stronger as we continue to lift our problems and struggles up to God. This does not mean that we pretend they are not there but that we give total control of the situation over to Him. He knows exactly what we need.

The mention in the text of the eagle is not by mistake. Out of every bird on the face of the earth, the eagle has learned to use the storm to their advantage. They allow the winds from the storm to lift them far above the storm itself. Even though the storm is raging below, the eagle is in a place of peace and resolve. This is what God expects of me and you. It’s impossible to quit when our thoughts are set on heavenly things (above the storm). If you are thinking about giving up you’re flying too low. If you are allowing what “they” say to hold you back you’re flying too low. If you are speaking death instead of life you’re flying too low.

Sometimes we have to stop and refocus. This may be where you are at this very moment. You think the storm is going to overtake you but all you need to do is refocus. Let God hold the GPS in your life and you have no choice but to be victorious. God is allowing you to go through this because there is wisdom on the other side. This wisdom is not just for you but also for others. Remember, your ministry will be where your misery has been. Allow the storm to build your faith muscle.
